Communicating with the dolphins on the southeastern coast of the U.S.
I strolled across the white sandy beach and stood at the water’s edge. There was nothing to be heard but the constant rhythmic pulsation of the waves and the cries of the gulls patrolling the shoreline. As my gaze sank into the ocean, I realized I was looking into another world where creatures floated effortless among other like themselves. It made me think of the whale and the dolphin and why they are such magnificent creatures; they are travelers of two different worlds–and I found myself in the same position at the edge of the water……..
“We are going to speak to the whales and the dolphins,” she said. Following her example, we stood in a row within the foam of the waves. We watched as she became very still. After a moment of deep concentration, she opened her mouth wide and out came a loud, piercing, vibratory two-syllable word that resonated into the horizon. We watched as she proceeded to show us how to create this sound, which took a considerable amount of practice.
“This is how the Australians speak to the whales and the dolphins,” she explained. “They imitate the sound of the deep.” She called it “toning.”
This involved creating a hollow sound and combining it with body movements that approximated martial arts maneuvers. After synchronizing the first syllable with a sharp twist of the body and one leg raised, on the second syllable we brought the leg down and thrust one hand forward as if we were punching the air. Doing this in the water with the waves crashing down was a challenge, to say the least.
We must have presented quite a scene: fifteen people fighting the breakers, with judolike movements!
Thirty minutes later, our voices began to sound strained. But we noticed that something unusual was happening: the crests of the waves had started to rise…..
We looked up and saw several dolphins bobbing around in the water. They were coming closer and had obviously heard our communication!
We were ecstatic, overcome with emotion. We could feel them touching our minds. We could sense their purity and gentleness. These intelligent creatures just wait for us to respond to them. Their unconditional love for humans has never diminished. Dolphins used to walk among us as earth dwellers. There is a very close kinship between humans and dolphins–they communicate telepathically.
